ESLA is delighted to launch ESLA Talks, a new conversation series bringing together researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders to explore the ideas, research and challenges shaping speech and language therapy across Europe.
Through ESLA Talks, we aim to connect research, clinical practice and policy, encourage new perspectives and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue across our professional community.
Our first episode: AAC, Participation and the Right to Share One's Own Story
To mark AAC Awareness Month, ESLA Chair Sahra Mengal welcomes Gunilla Thunberg, SLT and Associate Professor, for the very first episode of ESLA Talks.
Their conversation explores the story behind AKKtiv, the importance of supporting communication partners, and how research can inform AAC interventions in everyday life.
They also discuss Gunilla's project Right to Share One's Own Story, highlighting the importance of enabling people who use AAC to share experiences, express their identity and participate meaningfully in society.
The conversation concludes by exploring the challenges and opportunities for improving access to AAC across Europe and the role of professionals and policymakers in advancing communicative rights.
Because communication is about more than expressing needs. It is about sharing experiences, building relationships and having a voice in our own lives.
