THE ESLA BOARD MET THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT - ROBERTA METSOLA
On March 23rd, the ESLA Board had the pleasure to meet Hon Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, who was very interested in listening to updates about our profession. Metsola showed her support towards ESLA and our mission to improve the recognition of the profession and initial training for SLTs across all of Europe. This meeting was extremely fruitful and beneficial for ESLA in its work to increase the awareness about our profession and the role we have in communication and swallowing disorders, amongst important policymakers.
The ESLA Board was also able to meet with MEP Massimiliano Smeriglio thanks to the intervention of our member FLI, Federazione Logopedisti Italiani. A meeting was also held with the office of the DG GROW, which is responsible for regulation, recognition and the Common Training Framework (CTF). These meetings proved to be very insightful and provided ESLA with relevant guidance for moving towards setting minimal standards for the education of future SLTs and thus safeguarding the quality of the profession.
